Kayak Cleanup

Wetlands are vital habitats for wildlife and carbon sequestration. Kayak into the South San Diego Bay wetlands to reach marine debris that is not accessible by foot. Kayakers learn about local wildlife, water quality, and microplastics. There is no cost to join, so let’s get on the water!

Restoration Days

Restoring wetlands with coastal sage scrub is vital for the health of local wildlife. Start the day with coffee, yoga, an educational walk, or water quality monitoring with local partners at refuge locations in National City, Chula Vista, or Imperial Beach. Then help us plant native and remove invasive species while having fun!

Connect to the community, the environment, and local wildlife. Scroll through our one-time community engagement opportunities. Crochet with “Porpoise”

In this two-part series, learn the valuable skill of crochet. Then choose a sea animal and join the fun as we create Ocean Pals “stuffies” as prizes for our students. Events are hosted at coffee shops, wine bars, and parks. Receive hands-on instruction in a fun group environment. Treat yourself and giveback at the same time!

Discover a wild side of San Diego you’ve never seen before! Ocean Connectors Eco Tours are personalized one-of-a-kind experiences providing a day of outdoor fun in beautiful San Diego. Tours are conducted in partnership with local businesses and are led by certified guides who are experts in marine science, recreation, and conservation.

All equipment is included (kayaks, paddles, life jackets, bicycles, helmets, binoculars, etc.)

Did you know that San Diego provides foraging habitat for the Eastern Pacific green sea turtle? This small feeding population consists of about 60 individuals, and they migrate to islands off the coast of Mexico to lay their eggs.

WILDLIFE KAYAKING

Includes a two-hour guided kayaking tour inside the South San Diego Bay. Kayakers use waterproof binoculars and field guides to observe wildlife as they paddle through the Chula Vista Wildlife Reserve with local experts leading the way.

Did you know that the Heermann’s gull is the only North American gull that nests south of the United States and migrates north during the winter? Many species of migratory birds depend on our coastal bays, estuaries, and wetlands for survival.

BIRDING AND BIKING

Includes a two-hour guided bird watching tour around the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Guests use binoculars, telescopes, and field guides as they bike the Bayshore Bikeway. Wildlife experts point out key local sights and bird species.

WHALE WATCHING

Includes a three-hour guided whale watching tour departing from downtown San Diego. Guests use binoculars to observe wildlife aboard Flagship’s Marietta. Experts share facts about marine life, local landmarks, and history.
