Frances Lang (formerly Kinney) is a Program Officer at The Ocean Foundation where she leads the Community Ocean Engagement Global Initiative focused on creating equitable access to marine education programs and careers throughout the world. Frances came to San Diego in 2007, where she founded Ocean Connectors, and in 2009 led the organization’s transition to The Ocean Foundation. Within two years she was able to double the level of fundraising as well as the size and scope of the program audience, and today Ocean Connectors reaches approximately 5,000 youth annually through her foundational vision and many years of organizational leadership. Frances is a graduate of the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy Fundraising Academy, the CCL Leadership Development Program, and the HBS Club of San Diego Not-for-Profit Management Development Program. She holds a Master’s Degree in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, a B.A. in Environmental Studies with a Minor in Spanish from the University of California Santa Barbara, and a Professional Certificate in Grant Writing from San Diego State University.
